The University Libraries’ is pleased to announce its first MomentUM campaign to expand the old Technology Sandbox into a new, innovative makerspace called the sandbox. in McWherter Library! the sandbox. will include more than just cutting-edge technology, it will also include tools for traditional crafting as well, from soldering irons to sewing machines. Our goal is to provide students access to tools and resources that they might otherwise not have access to, while also facilitating hands-on learning and interdisciplinary collaboration. the sandbox.’s audio and video production suites are almost ready for their grand opening, but the main space will be housed in a larger, more collaborative area, and it needs your help!
the sandbox. is partnering with MomentUM, the University of Memphis’ crowdfunding platform for community fundraising. MomentUM offers donors the chance to give directly to projects that are important to them. The funds raised will help the University of Memphis’ Libraries provide new technology and technology-related workshops to students, no matter their department. Many of our students are working on innovative projects that require new technology they might not have access to elsewhere. Workshops by our trained staff and faculty will teach students how to use the current technologies which will help them succeed in their field of study.
the sandbox. currently has three 3D printers, one 3D scanner, various video gaming systems, several different kinds of photography and video cameras, soldering kits, and circuit boards. By expanding the sandbox., the Libraries can accommodate more students and technology, and supportive training sessions so that students can succeed in their academic and professional careers.
