Invest in Our Students; Invest in the Future
Join the Benjamin L. Hooks Institute for Social Change in investing in our future leaders! The Hooks Academic Achievement & Mentoring Initiative (HAAMI) and A Seat at The Table (ASATT) provide enrichment programming to strengthen students’ academic success, personal and leadership development, and career readiness. HAAMI enriches the collegiate experience and improves graduation outcomes for UofM undergraduate male students with the greatest need for support, coaching and mentoring. ASATT empowers female students by providing mentorship, personal development, and leadership development. HAAMI and ASATT enrich members’ collegiate experiences and prepare them for career success and positive impact in their communities.
About HAAMI
HAAMI was established in 2015, with the program pillars of academic achievement, personal development, and career readiness. HAAMI members are engaged in monthly enrichment sessions on topics that include academic success skills, personal financial literacy, business networking skills, and wholistic well-being. HAAMI members also receive coaching and mentoring, learn about UofM support resources, and receive job search and career readiness training. Active HAAMI members are awarded a stipend for tuition expenses and course materials. Stipends are made possible through donations and grant funding.
About ASATT
Launched by the Hooks Institute in September 2021, ASATT works to empower women through professional and personal development opportunities designed to provide mentorship and close opportunity gaps. ASATT members learn skills in leadership, career development, and civic engagement so that they are prepared to have a seat at any table they choose after graduation. In addition to targeted activities, support services, and events specially tailored for the ASATT women, members also participate in select HAAMI enrichment sessions, bringing these two dynamic groups together for shared learning opportunities and pathways to success.
