What are we raising money for?
The J. Wayne Johnson Memorial Scholarship is raised by Student Ambassador Board and is awarded to outstanding graduating juniors and seniors exhibiting academic and leadership excellence.
The Scholarship is in honor of the late J. Wayne Johnson (BBA ’64) who was the first to wear the Tiger mascot costume. He personally had the costume made and assumed the role in the Fall of 1960. Unfortunately, Johnson was killed in a helicopter accident while serving in the Navy in 1967. The Scholarship was established in his honor in 1968 and has been awarded ever since.
How are we fundraising?
To raise money, the Student Ambassador Board hosts an annual Mudball tournament involving a wide range of students, faculty, and alumni with the chance to join in the fun. Mudball will take place on April 13th and it incorporates teams playing tug-of-war and volleyball in the mud!
Who does it support?
All proceeds of mudball will benefit the J. Wayne Johnson Memorial Scholarship and SAB professional and leadership growth opportunities.
Show your stripes and consider donating $75 to the J. Wayne Johnson Scholarship Fund. You will be featured on our social media if you donate by April 1st.
Are you a huge Memphis Tiger's fan? Consider donating $100 for 1/10 of a scholarship for a scholar. You will be featured on our social media and our shirt (if submitted before March 31st).
