On September 18, 1959 eight African American students began a trailblazing journey by integrating then Memphis State University.
63 years ago Eleanor Gandy, Sammie Burnett Johnson, Marvis Kneeland Jones, Bertha Rogers Looney, Rose Blakney Love, Luther C. McClellan, Ralph Prater, and John Simpson were escorted to their classes and began paving the way for the future of black students at then Memphis State University.
This year is the University of Memphis' 110th birthday. Celebrate the progress that has been made and the future that awaits our Tiger community.
