In 2021, almost half of all Americans between 7 and 22 years of age are racial or ethnic minorities. In Memphis, 75% of residents are minorities. Audiology and Speech Language Pathology needs professionals who can meet the needs of our diverse and changing world. The School of Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD) at the UofM has made increasing diversity in the professions a priority.
The CSD Diversity Scholarship will help cover the cost of tuition for one audiology student and one speech language pathology student from an underrepresented group (e.g., Black/African-American, Hispanic/Latinx, Asian American/Pacific Islander, Native American) over the course of 3 semesters (fall, spring, summer), or one academic year of their graduate program.
It will be awarded for the first time to incoming students in Fall 2021. The School hopes to make this an ongoing scholarship. These funds will empower our students to complete their requirements for class and clinic (typically a 60 hour a week commitment) with less stress and fewer concerns about their finances.
