Send our Journalism students to the Olympics!
Every four years, thousands of athletes from around the world gather to compete in the summer Olympic Games. This year, fourteen journalism students from the University of Memphis are invited to the most prestigious of all multi-sport international competitions, as interns for the Rio 2016 Organizing Committee. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that will allow them to network with professionals from around the world!
For the first time ever, the University of Memphis will be represented within an Olympics Organizing Committee!
Our students will be a voice from the Olympics to the world. They will be integrated into the Rio 2016 Organizing Committee’s workforce program serving as junior reporters for the Olympic News Service (ONS), which acts as a newswire service during the games.
The Department of Journalism and Strategic Media believes in providing students an international perspective as part of their education, and any unused funds will benefit future study abroad trips such as our annual program to Germany.
Call to action:
The university worked to provide housing, some meals and visas to all students, as well as part of the airfare for most participating students via scholarships from the study abroad office. But this competitive program will still cost each student $2,550 on top of tuition. That is why we are seeking your support. Help University of Memphis students make their Olympic dream a reality!
