The Urban Affairs Doctoral Student Travel Fund will provide support for students to present their research or creative activities at professional conferences/meetings and allows students to engage with the broader professional community. This fund will give our doctoral students the opportunity to communicate their results to a professional audience and to experience networking with academics, professionals, and students with similar interests.
The School of Urban Affairs and Public Policy aims to promote equitable distribution of travel funds.
Who Can Apply?
What Type of Travel Is Supported?
The SUAPP Sponsored Urban Affairs Student Travel Fund will support two types of travel.
Category 1: Presenter Conference Funds:
Category 2: Attendee Conference Funds
A student may also apply for travel funds in order to engage with the broader professional community. Up to $500 may be requested. Work of this nature may include attending special research-related workshops, exhibitions, or professional conferences (at which the student is not presenting). In such cases, the student’s attendance must be endorsed by a faculty member.
A $25 dollar gift helps our students to pay for meals and other associated costs for attending an academic conference.
A $50 dollar gift helps to offset the transportation costs associated with conference travel for our students.
A gift at the 100 dollar level helps to offset the cost of conference registration for our students.
Conference fees for students average around $200 per conference nationally. A gift at this level goes far to offset the cost of conference registration fees.
A $500 gift can pay for up to two conference registration fees for our students.
